Kesa no Sake News
We’ve Launched Our English Website
We’re excited to announce the launch of our English website, created to share the story of Shibetsu with a wider audience around the world.
“Ten thousand years ago is just like today.”
In Shibetsu, life has long been lived in harmony with salmon. Facing the Nemuro Strait, with Kunashiri Island on the horizon, this land has been blessed with rich fishing grounds that have sustained people since ancient times. This enduring salmon culture has been recognized as part of “Japan Heritage” by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Shibetsu sits at the heart of this story.
Through the history of the town and the everyday lives of its people, we hope to convey the true value of this region—its nature, its culture, and its continuity across generations.
In honor of this connection, we hold close a simple yet meaningful phrase:
“This Morning’s Salmon” — Kesa no Sake.
A palindrome in Japanese, it reads the same forward and backward.
Just like life here—whether looking to the past or the future, the essence remains unchanged.
We invite you to explore Shibetsu through our new English website.
