Po River Historical and Nature Park: Experience over ten thousand years of history and nature

Commune with nature and experience an ancient way of life, where the history of mankind and salmon is preserved.

Feel the history and untouched nature in a place deeply connection to the story of “A Heritage of Salmon.”

Inside the park are preserved two nationally-designated cultural properties, Ichani Karikariusu Ruins, which include the world’s largest group of ruins of indigenous dwellings, and the natural monument Shibetsu Wetlands.

It also includes the “Development Village,” consisting of restored buildings from the era of settlement of Hokkaido, and the visitor center, which introduces the nature, history, and culture of Shibetsu town.

Whether they want to learn about the roots of Ainu culture and the ancient bond between humans and salmon, or to encounter pristine and untouched nature, countless people from across Japan, and even beyond, flock to Po River Historical and Nature Park.

We continue to preserve it unchanged as an invaluable place to experience history and nature.

Our recommendation!
